Youth
A typical youth group is a holding tank with pizza. Churches focus on fun and games, while 70% of college age students drop out of the faith.
Something has to change.
CGS is beginning a new experiment in youth ministry. With our new youth director, Kimberlee Richards, we aren't programing a youth ministry - instead we are pushing the Gospel forward towards our teens, and seeing what develops.
So far, we've launched a ministry called "Bibles & Bits". This ministry partners with horses to enrich the lives of Junior and Senior High girls through equine and human relationships. Horses are incredibly intuitive and by some miracle create a sense of closeness to all of creation, and the Creator. After an hour and a half of mucking stalls, grooming, riding horses, and learning tidbits of information about horse care and how to ride, we dive into the scriptures to learn what God is saying to us right here and now. Join us on Monday nights for an adventure in life, in the saddle, and in the Word.
We also have a Junior High Youth Group that meets on Tuesday nights. This group is a high energy adventure that focuses on reaching out to the youth in our community. Our energy is let loose through Tennis, Basketball and Tag - that is so intense you don't know which way to run. Our bible studies are just as intense; right now we are focusing on discovering who God really is and what our faith, friends, and choices all have to do with our relationship with Him.
On Thursday nights the High School/College Mixers meet. We roast marshmallows, talk about life around the campfire, and dive into the Scriptures. We do this so we can be equipped not only with our own faith and values, but so that we can know how to incorporate the Gospel into our daily lives whether we are sitting at home or walking along the road (Deuteronomy 6:7), at school or at a football game.
