CGS's Vision & Values

CGS exists to Help Spiritual Wanderers Become Authentic Followers of Jesus.

Wanderers:

Technically, we are all wanderers from time to time. There are two types of wanderers: some people are wandering spiritually and some are wanderers within the faith. Whether you are struggling inside or outside of the faith, at CGS we want to answer questions and be a support in the process by:

  • helping you see what it 'really' looks like to be an authentic follower of Jesus.
  • provide you with worship that tears down cultural walls, while lifting up the otherness of God.
  • present a holistic foundation for life that addresses both your everyday needs, as well as, eternal questions about grace, gospel and community.

Followers:

Americans have a hard time following anyone, much less, Jesus. There is so much freedom in the Christian faith that gets abused and there are disciplines that are frequently abused as well. In order to find a healthy balance. We need to work together as we strive after the lofty goal of becoming more and more like Christ. We aren't perfect but we are faithful that everyday we will look more like the following:

  • act the way Jesus would if He were in our shoes.
  • through the changes God makes in our lives, we hope to shine the light of Christ in a dark world.
  • our light should attract wanderers from our neighborhoods, work, families etc. to Jesus.
  • as we begin to interact with wanderers in non-threatening way, we hope to begin to change negative opinions wanderers have about Christianity.
  • united community of faith with one mission from leadership through to all participatory levels.
  • commit that each of us will do our part, and more, for the glory of God.
  • reach out to the broken, the poor, the addicted and people who have made bad choices.
  • extend grace to wanderers and give them help to make the best choice in the world, a choice for Jesus.
  • empower every group, ministry and program of this church to be missional.
  • equip people to follow Jesus in all the areas of their lives by being role models for authentic Christian life.

This is God's dream for our church, and is the fuel for the fire that we are lighting with Jesus.

CGS Values

  • We believe that the Gospel of Jesus changes everything; therefore we preach, teach and celebrate the Good News.
  • We believe that God calls us to help Spiritual Wanderers follow Jesus; therefore we are called to reach out with love to the community around us and share the gospel with them in a way they can understand.
  • We believe that connected relationships are valuable and that these relationships should honor the significance of diverse people; therefore we follow Jesus' example of acceptance, grace and value.
  • We believe that we have a personal relationship with God that impacts our lives, ministries and activities; therefore we pray because He hears and answers.
  • We believe that the church must be an aligned group of servants; therefore we will help people discover their personal expressions of God's mission.
  • We believe that spiritual growth is necessary and desirable; therefore we equip and encourage people to continually strengthen their relationship with God.

All this is done on biblical foundations, with prayer and excellence.
